the first of what the city hopes will be many reviews by long time inner-city dweller nick gaudio. peace xa synth fuelled pop affair, the australian 3 piece band hailing from melbourne have really hit the spot with the release of this album. released just before spring, these tracks are bound to have you thinking of waves, sand, fresh cut grass and all of spring’s other close relatives.

i must also say i am a huge fan of good album artwork and this one doesn’t disappoint. an album cover which is slightly reminiscent to that of tame impala – innerspeaker, even the art itself points to a summer vibe.

a generally fun album, the record is guaranteed to keep your feet tapping no matter where you are. josh moriarty’s unique vocals just bleed happiness, especially in the track ‘imagination’.

consider shelling the extra $5 for the deluxe edition containing the ‘illumination – remixes cd’, completely worth the buy. don’t expect club bangers in the bonus purchase though, as artists such as punks jump up, fred falke, death metal disco and gloves add their disco touch to some of the favourites off the album.

you can’t go past ‘sometimes’ to be the pick of the bunch off the album, but i will point you into the direction of ‘soft light’. for me this is the quintessential summer track, pure bliss and for you who have just started your two week drinking bender (commonly referred to as uni holidays), it’s vital you have the track ‘holidays’ floating around on your iPod.

rumoured to play at bdo’11, i will be front and centre.
